Where does the time go! - May 19, 2008

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. We've been working on some recordings of new songs, for demo, and submission to some competitions.

Had an awesome time in Rochester, NY where we sang at an old time music night at Greece Baptist Church. Very well attended! And we got to meet lots of wonderful people.

More to come soon.

Heard it on the radio... - January 7, 2008

Well, pretty exciting to be getting some play on the radio. Sitings...er...hearings on WUMB 91.9 FM and WRUV 90.1 FM in Burlington, VT. Great news, hope to hear more!

And we're really looking forward to seeing Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands at the National Heritage Museum, in Lexington, MA on Saturday the 12. Its a great venue and Laurie is always amazing!
Her beautiful Wood Thrush's Song is a favorite of mine. It'll be great to deliver a CD to her in person.

We're settling in, doing a bit of hibernating and healing and beginning to gear up for some Spring music. Check out the Calendar.

More soon!

Long time catching up and wedding bells ! - November 30, 2007

Whooooweeeeee!

What with working on the healing of one badly broken leg, settling in from the move and life in general, it's been awhile since I've posted.

The biggest news of all, is that Michael and I got hitched! Yessirreee, I'm a missus...job title changes but the name remains the same. I'm still keeping my long-standing moniker.

Due to the chaos that ensued around the broken bone disaster, we streamlined the whole event. Shifting from a big ceilidh with the foot stompin' Anthony Shostak of Wake the Neighbors fame, to a much more intimate (read manageable) affair in our new home — attended and officiated by the graceous and musically talented, Reverend Stephen Gretz and his lovely wife Leslie Lee and the equally talented and much loved Gail and Allen Weigner. We were blessed by the community, graced with song and spoken word and acknowledged by the State of Massachusetts and pronounced husband and wife on October 16th!

Well, more about wedded bliss, the at-home studio and music making in the coming days.

Peace

New house and an unlucky break! - September 5, 2007

Well, we've officially moved into our new digs. Very exciting! With the help of 5 strapping young movers, two trucks and lots of love, support and packing/cleaning help from the Ross clan and friends.

We've really been looking forward to this big event. It was slightly dampened by my spectacularly grace-less fall out of the art studio doorway, slipping off a loose step and into an uneven side yard, in the dark, on the night we closed. The fall left me with a sprained right ankle and a broken left fibula. I had surgery two weeks ago to add a plate and a few pins to the present configuration and am making quite a spectacle of myself hop/crutching around on a sprained ankle with a lovely amethyst fiberglass cast. Not really what you want when moving homes and unpacking/settling into new space. But, at least we're in!

Thank God, for my amazing wunder-fiancé, Michael, who is currently keeping the boat afloat.

If all goes well, I'll be in a walking cast by September 15th, for the Boston Folk Festival Songwriting Competition Finals. We're excited and proud to be among the finalists and expect to have a wonderful time no matter the outcome. Hopefully we'll see some of you there, to cheer us on!

If you want details, just go to www.wumb.org and follow the links for the Folk Festival.

Take care and be well.

Boston Folk Festival Finalist! - August 6, 2007

Whoohoo! Just heard from Dick Pleasants that the song, "Watch the Tide" has been selected as a finalist in the 2007 Boston Folk Festival Songwriting Competition! We're pleased and excited to be competing at the finals on September 15th. The winner to have the opportunity to perform on the big stage on the 16th. It's an honor to be considered!

Hope some of you can make it out to support us at the finals.

more soon,

Pemi Valley Bluegrass - August 6, 2007

we just got back from a much needed mini-break from packing. We headed up to New Hampshire to catch part of the Pemi Valley Bluegrass Festival at Branch Brook Campground. We shared a site with some wonderful friends - - nestled in among the trees right along the river bank. The spot was sublime.

It was great getting to see our camp neighbor, the awesome banjo-pickin' Rich Stillman gracing the stage with both Southern Rail and Adam Dewey & Crazy Creek. His playing and singing were exceptional and it was great to get a chance to see him. (Even if it was just long enough for him to run back to his tent for yet another costume change. The outfits were classy!)

We heard some really fine music, and had lots of fun playing and singing at the campsite. And there was the incredibly relaxing tube ride down the river, an essential part of our Pemi Valley experience. It is more of a drift, than a ride, really. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs to remember how to relax. The water and the view were refreshing.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

What a nice time! - July 25, 2007

We got a chance to see my sister-in-law, niece and nephew up from Fort Bragg, NC the other night. Had a lovely dinner and sat around singing and laughing and having a good time. (And beaming good thoughts to my brother in Iraq!)

We know my niece and sis-i-o have sweet voices, but who knew about my nephew Mike! Keep it up, you were awesome!

And then we spent a lovely Sunday morning sharing in the summer worship service at the Second Church of Newton with our friends Gail and Allen Wiegner. We enjoyed some of the close harmonies that Gail, Michael and I love so much, and we even shook the place up a little bit with an up-tempo, a cappella spiritual. Smiles all around!

See you soon.

New home, wedding plans and music - July 17, 2007

Wow! With so much going on right now, I don't want to lose touch about the music. Happily we'll be joining our friends, Gail and Allen Wiegner for a little church singin' next Sunday. And we're dusting off and polishing up some old beauts for singing around the campfire at the Pemi Valley Bluegrass Festival at the beginning of August. But we've got pots boiling on all burners right now!

We're half way through the process of buying a house! Whoohoo!! And there's not only going to be room for a lovely big music space filled with light. But, also a separate out-building with wood stove for visual arts and creating. Awesome place with lots of space to grow a garden, create beautiful music, gather friends for song and story and room for knitting, painting, drawing, etc.

And then there's the wedding!

No wonder there aren't any current gigs just now. Hopefully coming soon.

For now, wishing you all a wonderful summer. And more soon.

Working on some new songs, and singing with our friends - June 15, 2007

Enjoying a little time to work on some new material as well as learning some (new to us) old greats.

Spending lots of time planning and organizing for our fall wedding and the house hunt. But, never too far from the music. We hope to have some updates to the schedule soon.

Meanwhile, the scented and ivy geraniums and flower-filled window boxes on our porch are going great guns. Tempting us to bring the music outside...hmmm, I wonder how the neighbors will feel?

Hope you are enjoying this sweet, blooming time of early summer. See you soon!

the Habitat for Humanities Benefit - May 3, 2007

We had a wonderful time performing at the 2007 Habitat for Humanities Benefit a the Mozaic Room, in Avon, MA on Sunday, April 22nd. Thanks so much to Steve Gretz for another wonderful day of music and community for a great cause! At final tally $2,100 was raised for the Habitat that day. Awesome! I've added a few photos from our set to the gallery. Take a look.
